Box of Happies review, July 2014

Name: Box of Happies
Details: A monthly subscription box of unique handmade products created by talented artists
Price: $28.99

Let's take a look at what I received in my July Box of Happies, which arrived in the mail last week.

I love the plastic boxes in which all my goodies arrive. They're great for storage!

1. Necklace/earrings/bracelet set from Box of Happies (retail value: $24). Box of Happies typically includes a special gift in each shipment. This month's gift was a jewelry set with the "tree of life" motif. I like the simplicity of these pieces, and will definitely add them to my accessory rotation.

2. Greeting card from Simple Scribbles (retail value: $3.95). This is a very cute card! I love the sassy little "merci beaucoup!" on the cover.

3. Cream and sugar scrub combo from Beazer's Garden (retail value: $3.50). My skin can always stand some exfoliation, so I can't wait to try these out.

4. Nail polish from Cupcake Polish (retail value: $5). I have enough nail polish to last for the next five years, but I don't yet have this color. It'll be a good hue for winter, when the rest of my fingers are already blue from the cold.

 ----------

Overall, I enjoyed my Box of Happies this month. If I'm being completely honest, nothing in the box completely floored me, but I did like everything that I received, so that's a win in my book.

Box of Happies review, June 2014

I received my June Box of Happies shipment in the mail this weekend. Box of Happies is an "indie" subscription service that offers a variety of handmade items for $28.99 a month. It's consistently been one of my favorite boxes to receive, so let's take a look at this month's shipment and see how it stacks up against the others.

1. Necklace and earring set from Box of Happies (retail value: $16). Every shipment includes a jewelry set that's a gift from Box of Happies. This month's version contains a necklace with a little pink bird (which I like) and earrings that look like they might be elephant tusks, or chili peppers, or something else that I can't identify (or maybe it's just a random design). I didn't like the earrings quite so much, but the bird makes up for it.

2. Handcrafted floral magnet from Robin's Art and Design (retail value: $15). This magnet is cute, but I think that its price is overinflated. I found it disappointing that almost half of the box's value was taken up by this item.

3. Two-ounce bar soap from Megan's Soap Box (retail value: $2). I love getting bath and body items in subscription boxes. This soap has a lemongrass scent, and I'll definitely be using it!

4. Rhinestone hair tie from TingLisa (retail value: $6). Hair ties are "big" in subscription boxes right now; I've received no fewer than three sets from various indie boxes to which I subscribe. This particular hair tie is cute, and while it'll probably get hidden in my massive, curly hair, I think that it's a nice addition to the box.

 ----------

I'm not gonna lie, this month's Box of Happies was a disappointment. I really liked a few of the items that I received, but the items that I didn't like bummed me out. I also feel as though, while technically the cost of the products that I received was more than the cost of the box, for what I paid, the value wasn't there. I've been really happy with past boxes, though, so I'm assuming this shipment was just a fluke that didn't happen to tickle my fancy. Onward to next month!

Box of Happies review, May 2014

I can always count on Box of Happies to make me happy! BoH is one of the first subscription boxes that I ever received, and it's one of my favorites. I was a little late in ordering the May box, so it arrived in the mail only last week. Let's take a peek inside it.

I LOVE the plastic boxes that contain my Box of Happies treasures! They prove useful in storing all the trinkets that I receive from subscription boxes.

On to the good stuff!

1. Pocket mirror from Katie Favors (retail value: $3)--this mirror is so cute, and will be a great addition to my purse. Plus, it's green, my favorite color!

2. Adjustable bracelet from Metrix Jewelry (retail value: $15). I really like this piece, too. It's delicate, and I love the "rustic" leather look.

3.Necklace/earrings set from Box of Happies (retail value: $16). Another winner! The Celtic look of this necklace and earrings set is right up my alley. I'm sure I'll be wearing both frequently.

4. Mango/papaya soy candle from Wax Alchemy (retail value: $8). I'm all about candles, so this was a great find. I'm not the biggest fan of "fruit" scents, but I'll still definitely get some use out of this.

The May Box of Happies was a successful one for me! I love getting jewelry in subscription boxes, so I was pleased that I received three new pieces to wear. Combine that with a candle and a cute pocket mirror, and I'm a happy girl!

Box of Happies review, April 2014

I'm a little behind in posting this review, as I received my April Box of Happies shipment more than a week ago. Life has been a little crazy since then, but now it's the weekend, and I have time to kick back on the couch and post about all the cool things I received this month. Let's get to them, shall we?

1. Set of six magnets from Art Altered (retail value: $5.99)--these are fun little magnets; they have a retro/vintage vibe, and will look cute on my fridge.

2. Necklace/earrings set from Box of Happies (retail value: $16)--I think I did a little "happy dance" when I saw this necklace. I LOVE bird-themed stuff, and I love necklaces, so this is a definite "win" for me. I also love the earrings but, alas, my hole-less earlobes make them unwearable, so I'll be giving them away. Sigh. I get so many cute earrings in subscription boxes that I might have to consider getting my ears pierced again.

3. Macrame bracelet from Arabian Vibes (retail value: $8)--when I think of the word "macrame," I typically picture rough-textured, owl-shaped, pea-green-colored wall hangings from the 1970s. This little bracelet definitely brings macrame into the 21st century. I love its delicacy and the fact that it has a neutral color, so that I can wear it with almost anything. It'll be a great little piece for summer.

4. "Enjoy the Little Things" stickers from writtenforyou (retail value: $4)--I've received other items from writtenforyou in various subscription boxes, and I've always been happy with them. These stickers are no exception. I'm not sure where I'll be putting them, but they have a message that I sometimes have trouble remembering!

Once again, I enjoyed my Box of Happies. I love accessories, so I was extra excited to find three jewelry pieces in the box this month. Well worth the $28.99 I paid for it! Box of Happies review, March 2014 (plus coupon code)

Box of Happies was the first subscription box that I ever signed up for, and it was the first subscription box that I received in the mail. In case you're wondering, yes it did, in fact, make me happy :)  Box of Happies is a subscription service that, for $28.99 each month, offers handmade products from crafters and artisans, many of whom sell their wares on etsy. I wasn't sure what to expect when I opened the box, but I was pleasantly surprised by what I found.

Necklace/Earring set from Box of Happies (retail value: $16)--I love all things Irish, so I was excited to find these pieces in the box. Because I don't have pierced ears, I wasn't able to use the earrings, but I found a new home where they'll be given the wear that I couldn't provide. And of course I kept the necklace; green is my favorite color, and I loved the delicacy of the shamrock charm.

"Pucker Pot" lip balm from Tulips Apothecary (retail value: $8.00)--another item I loved. The packaging (a linen-type bag) was so cute, and the lip balm works really real. My only caveat is that I got a "licorice" flavor balm (is "flavor" the right word to use when referring to lip balm?), and licorice is a taste that I can't stand. (I shudder every time I look at a black-licorice-flavored jelly bean.) However, because I won't actually be eating the lip balm, I think I'll be okay. This one's a keeper.

Set of two clothespin magnets from Earth Cookie Creations (retail value: $2.50)--another cute item, and useful. I'll be sticking these on our fridge, or maybe using them at work.

Natural lavender eye makeup remover by Homespun Northwest (retail value: $6)--I was so excited to see this! Typically, and paradoxically, I have two problems with my eye makeup: it comes off too easily, leaving me with "raccoon eye," or it stubbornly clings to my lashes, forcing me to fall asleep with mascara ringing my eyes. This makeup remover is vegan and all-natural, so I'm excited to give it a shot.

Drumroll...the verdict? I was really happy with my first Box of Happies. It's so much fun to receive handmade products that support artisans, and even more fun when every month brings a treasure trove of new surprises.
