This month's (or, I guess I should say last month's) Whimseybox was a little late on arrival. I'm not sure what the holdup was, but Whimseybox sent an email apologizing for the delay, and the package arrived on my doorstep a few days into August.

Two seconds after I removed this ribbon, my cat was batting it around on the floor.

What could all this stuff be?

It's a faux agate jewelry kit! The box contains all the materials I'll need to make pseudo agates from polymer clay. I've never used polymer clay as a crafting material, so this should be interesting. Still, I love the look of the necklace and earrings whose photos appear in the instruction booklet. I'm all about that striated purple pattern, and I hope my versions of these pieces turn out just as well.

My Whimseybox shipment arrived in the mail yesterday. Let's take a peek.

Hmm, a pineapple. I literally have no idea what could be inside.

It's a kit to make a gilded, gold picture frame! (I'm not sure how the pineapple plays into this, but whatever.)

When I opened the box, the odor of some varnish-type substance was very strong. I had to look through everything to make sure that whatever was smelling hadn't leaked. Luckily, it was all good.

Another pic of the supplies. I'm really excited about this project! I love photo frames, and I'll have fun coming up with a cool design to use on mine.

Whimseybox review, May 2014

I love Whimseybox.

Every month, the company sends out a new craft project to complete, for only $15. I love to craft, and I needed a pick-me-up last week, so I was excited to see the May Whimseybox show up in my mail.

 

 

I can't wait to see what's inside! (Neither could my cats, who were circling this box as I took photos. They're convinced that every time I receive a new subscription box, it contains food.)

 

And...tah-dah!

 

This is a kit to make tissue-paper flowers. I love it!

Look at these flowers. They're so cute! I'm doubtful whether the versions that I make will turn out as gorgeous, but I'll give it my best shot.

Whimseybox review, April 2014

Whimseybox is a subscription service that, for $20, sends you a new craft to complete every month. My Whimseybox arrived a few days ago. Here's the box:

Still curious...I wonder what's inside?

A calligraphy kit! The set included a pen holder, two nibs, a container of India ink, paper on which to practice, a traceable alphabet, traceable quotations, and sheets of cardstock.

And instructions, of course.

This is such a unique craft, and at first I wasn't sure how I felt about it. I've always thought that calligraphy would be interesting to learn, but I assumed that my attention span would dry up long before I had mastered it. I still don't know how much I'll be calligraphying (and, yes, I know I made up that word), but I love the fact that Whimseybox introduced its subscribers to such an interesting and time-honored craft. Even if I don't completely immerse myself in the world of calligraphy, I'll definitely be trying it out and creating the project that was included in the Whimseybox (especially because I can proudly wear this "achievement earned" pin if I do so):
